Steve Wentzell / Monday, July 16, 2018 / Categories: Opinion Sabre Rattling Costs Big Time OPINION Last week our PM attended a NATO summit where the President of the USA demanded that we Canadians pay more towards NATO because our present share of payments is not enough. Our last two federal governments have budgeted 25 billion towards new naval vessels. What that means is that each and all citizens of this Six Rivers community are paying $620 toward this contribution of navy ships to NATO. The PM should have brought this to the table as a reminder of what Canadian people are doing. I have never talked to anyone that wanted a war. It is a construct of government. I therefore do not agree that a family of four should be paying approximately $2700 to aid the USA who have military bases in 90 countries and nuclear ships and submarines in every ocean on earth. This Six Rivers community has had a great and proud history for peace through the generous and thoughtful help of Cyrus Eaton since 1957. A community voice is required. A loud voice if necessary. If we do not speak as a community we should then honestly say we are incompetent in governing ourselves.
