Shafford Joins NS Health Board

The MLA for Cumberland North says he is more than pleased that Cumberland County now has a representative on the board of the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA). Terry Farrell made his comments following the appointment of Douglas Shafford to the provincial body.

The NSHA board has eleven members, all appointed by the McNeil government, to watch over the Nova Scotia health care system. They come from varied backgrounds, perspectives, and approaches.

Shafford is a lawyer and senior partner at Creighton Shafford Hirbour of Amherst. He has also served the Nova Scotia Provincial Health Council, the Cumberland Regional Library Board, and the National Board of the Canadian Federation of Chiropractic Regulatory and Education Accrediting Boards.

More local, he has acted as legal counsel for the Highlandview Regional Hospital, the Parrsboro Advocate for the former Pugwash and Springhill hospitals prior to consolidation in 1995, and is currently counsel for the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors.

“I am thrilled to hear the news that Doug has been appointed to the NSHA board,” said Terry Farrell, “Doug’s experience and background has prepared him perfectly for this important role. I am also happy that a voice from Cumberland County will be represented on the board.”
