Sinkhole Closes Oxford’s Lions Park

Lion’s Park in Oxford was closed last night as a small sinkhole grew into a crisis.

Police and firefighters were called in around 8:00 o’clock, and they quickly cleared the scene, evacuated the Lion’s Centre, and closed the park.

What had been a small sinkhole had suddenly grown into a dangerous pit about 15 metres wide and 10 deep.

Witnesses describe hearing a very loud sound of rushing water after the the surrounding land caved in to create the large sinkhole.

The popular park remains closed while officials assess the danger and decide options to control the scene.
