Special Grants for Emergency Groups
Premier Tim Houston announced that eighty organisations will share almost $1.5 million through the Province's Emergency Services Provider Fund, available to fire departments, ground search and rescue organizations, and hazardous materials teams.
The Premier says, “Our volunteer first responders work hard to support their communities, including in recent months as Nova Scotia has faced record-breaking wildfires and flooding.” Houston added, “They train and commit to this work outside their other professional and family commitments, and we are grateful for their unwavering dedication. This investment will help support the invaluable work they do.”
The fund helps organizations with the cost of upgrading equipment used in response to fires or other emergencies.
Three Cumberland fire departments are included in this year’s program.
Wentworth Fire Department will receive,$4,531, while Springhill and Truemanville will each gain $20,000.
The annual fund helps fire departments purchase rescue, water supply, and personal protective equipment.
The program provides up to 75 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum of $20,000 per organisation
Each group can apply for funding every three years as the fund is dispersed throughout the province.
