Students Paint Musical Blueberry Mural
Work is underway on a large outdoor mural in Oxford. Two students are halfway through the project.
Jada Ripley’s concept won a competition with her whimsical submission that captures the musical efforts of Cumberland Performing Arts (CPA) the sponsor of the undertaking.
Ripley and her colleague Julia Gill are the painters, transforming a drawing from a simple sheet of paper to a mural 12 feet high by 16 feet wide.
While the painting denotes the musical efforts of CPA, it also contains subtle references to Oxford’s unique connection with wild blueberries.
The big mural will be installed at Blueberry Corner which has become a popular photo stop for visitors to the Wild Blueberry Capital of Canada.
The looming tribute will join the giant blue chair, the photo facade, and flag that currently grace the corner.
It will be installed and revealed at a special ceremony in late August.
The photo shows just half of the final product under the watchful eye of the two artists, Julia Gill on the left and Jada Ripley.
