Sudden Resignation Shocks Cumberland
The Municipality of Cumberland is once again looking for a Director of Protective Services.
Only seven months in the role, Bill Ireland resigned last night, effective September 30th.
There were no specifics given for the abrupt resignation in this high profile position. Ireland simply said, “It has become apparent that despite my best intentions I am not a good fit for the expectations of this position.” He added, “There are many personal and professional factors that contributed to this outcome.”
Ireland was hired as part of a major renewal of senior staff positions in Cumberland.
His first task was to accept and review a consultant’s report on a complete review of the fire service across the rural municipality. He said he would provide his analysis and recommendations before he leaves the office.
There was no word from the municipality, though such a decision was likely discussed in a private meeting and officials will need time to consider next steps.
