Summer Youth Employment Invites Applications
The 2017 edition of the Canada Summer Jobs program is now accepting applications for employers looking for funding to hire a summer student.
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a key component of the Youth Employment Strategy, helping employers create summer opportunities for students. CSJ is designed to focus on local priorities, while achieving tangible results for both students and employers.
The program provides funding for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. Students must be full-time, aged 15 to 30, who are intending to return to their studies in the next school year.
Last summer the program funded 196 employers in Cumberland-Colchester from a budget of $570,209.
Bill Casey, the MP for our area, says, “I would encourage all employers to take a look at the application process. It’s a win - win for the student and the employer.”
Application packages are available on-line from Service Canada at servicecanada.gc.ca or from the Service Canada location in Amherst. The deadline for employers to submit applications is January 20, 2017.
Anyone with questions, or needing help with the process, may call Service Canada at 1-800-935-5555 for assistance.
