Cumberland County’s Regional Emergency Measures Organisation (REMO) is urging residents to continue to prepare for the arrival of hurricane Lee this weekend.

A lot of people are talking about global climate change today. As if recent hurricanes were not enough, the altered seasons with tinder dry wildfires, aberrant heat and humidity, and now, torrential floods, even the staunchest holdouts are beginning to see the light.

Cumberland County set-up a contact line to help people without power connect with emergency services provided by the military and the Department of Natural Resources.

The Province is sending military and Natural Resources personnel to Cumberland County to help with the Hurricane Fiona clean-up.

Described as “The most significant rain and wind event Nova Scotia has seen in close to 20 years,” Hurricane Fiona prompted provincial officials to ask for help from the military.

Fire pagers went off this morning calling five fire departments into action along Highway 366 in Roslin. It was a staged exercise that included police, EMO, and officials from two gas pipeline companies.
