The chief of the Shinimicas Fire Department says his firefighters may have to close for a period this winter and he places the blame squarely on staff of the Municipality of Cumberland.

The Pugwash water system has garnered a prestigious award for engineering excellence from Nova Scotia’s Lieutenant Governor.

The Shinimicas Fire Department will build a new firehall, bigger and better, to replace their facility destroyed by fire in April.

Pugwash asked for a free water source at the Village Hall and they just might get their wish, though not in the way they asked.

The water is on in Pugwash. Cumberland County engineer Justin Waugh-Cress made the announcement at tonight’s Annual Meeting of the Pugwash Village Commission.

The engineer in charge of the new water system in Pugwash now sees light at the end of the tunnel. Justin Waugh-Cress says the last two major concerns in the system are being addressed this week.

The long-awaited municipal water supply in Pugwash appears only days away from delivery.

The question of whether the new Pugwash water system will be fluoridated has revived an age old argument. Dr. Graham Conrad, the village’s only dentist, urged the Village Commission to add fluoride to the water.

There was standing room only tonight for an open house meeting to talk about the Pugwash water system. People were leaning into the meeting room from the outer hallway at the Catholic church hall.

The heart of the new Pugwash water system is a state-of-the-art water treatment and pumping station in the middle of the woods. 

Cumberland County Council accepted a tender last night for the purchase and installation of water meters for Pugwash and Parrsboro. The devices will measure actual water consumption in approximately 360 homes in Pugwash.

Cumberland Council has spent a lot of time, in recent months, dealing with unsightly and derelict properties, mostly in the southern part of the county. But last night, two properties in Pugwash drew their attention.
