The Municipality of Cumberland said goodbye to a longtime member of its development and planning department following a 27-year career.

Pugwash residents will get one more kick at the can regarding drive-thrus in the village.

Drive thrus in Pugwash took one step closer to reality last night as Cumberland Council passed first reading of a change to the village land use by-laws.

Businesses looking for a drive-thru in Pugwash may have approval by fall. The county planner will recommend an amendment to the county by-law at the May 17th meeting of Cumberland Council.

The residents of Pugwash seem anxious to repeal a 2009 bylaw that bans drive thrus in the village.

A decision on allowing a drive-thru restaurant in Pugwash may be reached by summer. Municipal planner Nelson Bezanson was in the village yesterday gathering citizen input at an open house.

The Municipal Planner for Cumberland County will meet the public in Pugwash today to talk about whether the village should have a restaurant drive thru. Nelson Bezanson invites all to an open house at the St. Thomas More Church Hall between 3:30 and 6:30.

Cumberland County is in the midst of an over-all review of its planning strategy. The county hopes the 18 month review will update, and reconcile any conflicting bylaws with Springhill and Parrsboro, the two towns that dissolved and joined the municipality last year.
