Oxford Town Council gathered for two meetings last night, a regular, monthly Committee of the Whole (COW) and a special meeting to consider the 2024–2025 budget.

Oxford Mayor Greg Henley opened the last council meeting before the summer break with a note of congratulations to the graduating class of 2023 from the Oxford Regional Education Centre. 

The Town of Oxford’s next budget is about two weeks away, but some shopping couldn’t be put on hold.

Town of Oxford struck its new budget for the year 2022/23 with spending estimated at$2,668,538.

Oxford Town Council looked reality in the eye and adopted a 2.4 million dollar budget by cutting staff and services rather than raising taxes.

Between a rock and a hard place — that's where Oxford town councillors found themselves this past week, following last Monday's presentation of a draft operating budget that proposed shutting down the community rink for the coming season.  It's been closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Oxford Town Council took a first look at the numbers last night, and “It ain't pretty.” At the June Commitee-of-the-Whole meeting, councillors began to grapple with how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the town's finances.

Councillors in Oxford had to bite the bullet tonight as they passed a budget that requires a tax hike, the first in a long time.
