The Town of Oxford’s new Mayor—the 30th to hold the office—was sworn in last night. Greg Henley took the oath of office at a special Town Council meeting, presided over by outgoing mayor Trish Stewart, who welcomed new councillors Carla Black and Paul Jones.

The fate of community arenas appeared on the agenda of Oxford Town Council last evening. Councillors received a letter from the Municipality of Pictou County—the original was sent to Premier Stephen McNeil.

Off Highway Vehicles — OHVs or “four-wheelers” as they’re commonly known — have become a common sight in many rural communities in recent years. The Town of Oxford is considering a proposal from one enthusiast group to improve local facilities for visitors to town who travel the Trans-Canada Trail.

Last night’s Committee-of-the-Whole meeting of Oxford Town Council included a discussion around Police Services. The Town concluded their review of Police Services and voted in February to support a Cumberland County Council proposal.

The Towns of Amherst, Oxford and the County of Cumberland want to get out of the solid waste management game.

Between a rock and a hard place — that's where Oxford town councillors found themselves this past week, following last Monday's presentation of a draft operating budget that proposed shutting down the community rink for the coming season.  It's been closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 crisis.
