Tennis Plans for Sport Pugwash Recreation Complex
Tennis enthusiasts have found a new home at Sport Pugwash, an outdoor recreation complex on Miller Road near Pugwash. The Northumberland Tennis and Pickle Ball Association (NTPA) has struck a strategic partnership to build a modern tennis facility as part of a centralized recreation complex at Sports Pugwash.
The host group held its annual meeting last night where Sport Pugwash agreed to a 100 year lease to the tennis group at one dollar a year.
The partnership will allow the tennis group to proceed with fundraising and development plans for new facilities for tennis and pickle ball.
It has been described as a win—win, as the current tennis facilities in Pugwash are inadequate and badly showing their age. New courts at Sport Pugwash will add to the mix of recreation facilities currently offered, which include a harness horse track, baseball and softball, disc golf and walking trails.
The treasurer and chair of the courts committee for the NTPA says, “We are delighted to partner with Sport Pugwash and are highly appreciative of their generosity.” Rod Young added, “Together, our primary focus is to make Sport Pugwash a major destination for recreational sports.”
An aggressive planning, fundraising, and design effort has already begun and the tennis group set July 2022 as their target for a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The tennis group was asked to appoint two members to serve on the Board of Sport Pugwash. Diane Burnham and Rod Young, the one-two punch from the NTPA, were elected as directors of the host group.
Rod Young will be a guest on Morning Talk on Six Rivers Radio on Tuesday at 9:45 to talk about this latest development.
