Thinkers Rained with Youth Questions
The Pugwash Conference on Climate Change opened today with a number of social gatherings. There was an exhibition at the Lobster Factory, performances from the Eaton stage, and tours of the world famous, Thinkers Lodge.
The hectic schedule quickly fell behind as the stage presentations began an hour later than planned. The problem? Rain, but not the weather kind.
A question and answer session with the Thinkers and students at the high school turned into a flood of queries that delighted organizers. The curiosity and concerns expressed needed to be answered. If anybody deserves to have answers about the future of our world, it is the students who will soon inherit it.
The public program of activities continues this evening at the Peace Hall (former Masons’ Lodge). The Thinkers will present a panel discussion on our climate future, followed by a compelling movie about man’s role in the destruction of our oceans environment.
The Thinkers will gather in private tomorrow and Saturday at Thinkers Lodge. They will present their findings and decisions at a public event on Sunday afternoon.
Some of the Thinkers were introduced from the stage at Eaton Park. A few are shown in the photo as they received a welcoming applause.
