Bill Martin / Saturday, March 23, 2019 / Categories: News Truro Firefighter Honoured in Cumberland Fire departments from across Cumberland County gathered on overpasses of the Trans Canada Highway today to honour a fallen brother in the service. Skyler Blackie lost his life in an accident while training at the Nova Scotia Firefighting School in Waverly, NS. In preparation for a full regimental funeral service, he was escorted along the Trans Canada Highway by RCMP and members of both the Truro Fire and Police departments. Fire trucks and personnel from Colchester and Cumberland County Fire Departments took up positions along the highway from Truro to the entrance to Amherst. The video shows the passing procession under the highway at Exit Six at Oxford, the Gateway to Six Rivers to the Sea, with the salute of respect offered from those gathered above.
