UPDATE: Fire Ban in Effect for Northern NS
The ban includes consumer fireworks
Fire danger conditions are very high in Northern Nova Scotia, leading to a ban on all brush burning and campfires. A burn restriction also covers consumer fireworks, a fact that is often overlooked or forgotten.
The Department of Natural Resources have declared parts of Nova Scotia are under very high danger for fires. The fire service map shows the very high threat across Cumberland to Guysborough counties, along with Yarmouth and Shelburne. Most of the remaining part of the province faces high fire warning, while a portion of Cape Breton in the Sydney area is moderate.
Natural Resources determines the fire conditions and posts their warnings each day at 2 pm. The fire ban covers all the areas covered in orange on the attached map.
One fire chief alerted his department of the conditions, calling on everyone to heed the ban saying, "No burn today. If you see fire, ask residents to extinguish. If they refuse, call 911."
