UPDATED: Howe vs Tupper at the Old Capitol Theatre
What do you get when Joseph Howe meets Charles Tupper on the election campaign trail in Oxford? You get an entertaining musical play at the old Capitol Theatre.
Dale Fawthrop and Pat Melanson will stage their production of “With Glowing Hearts” tomorrow night and Sunday afternoon.
Set at the time of Confederation, the play pits the aristocratic Dr. Tupper against the wiley Howe, a newspaperman who connected easily with voters across the province.
Tupper was proud to usher Nova Scotia into this new fangled idea called Canada. Howe was dead set against it.
When they meet face-to-face at the Oxford Temperance Hall, in the play, it sets off fun and fireworks.
The play opens tomorrow at 7 o’clock and again on Sunday at 1 pm. The hour long production will be followed by a reception at the Town Hall, complete with Howe and Tupper in costume and character, as shown in the photo, as they discuss the events of 1867 with theatre guests.
