Volunteers Honoured for Queen’s Jubilee
The Member of Parliament for Cumberland-Colchester honoured 75 volunteers today in Wentworth as part of Queen Elizabeth’s 70th year on the throne.
The group was selected from volunteers who were nominated for their community service.
Each was presented with a citation and a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pin.
Dr. Stephen Ellis noted the pin was quite unique with a number of very specific elements fitting of the Queen’s special year of celebration.
Ellis said, “Volunteers are really the backbone of communities. It’s really about that fellowship and caring for our communities that really makes us unique here in rural Nova Scotia.” The MP added, “It’s part of the fabric of who we are.”
Ellis commented on the fact that all the recipients were nominated by their friends and neighbours. He said, “When somebody takes the time to honour the work you have done, it is a very, very special moment, because it means they truly believe in you.”
