Wallace Celebrates 45 Years of Firefighting
The Wallace and District Volunteer Fire Department (WDFD) was reorganized in 1973. Forty-five years later, three members who were part of that reorganization are still actively involved in the department.
The department held its annual service awards banquet on Saturday, where Douglas Gullon, Gerald Langille, and Tim Boyd were recognized by three levels of government for their 45 years of service.
The three received awards from MP Bill Casey, MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin and Municipal Councillor Lynne Welton.
Other awards went to Bill Walton for 40 years service and Paul Morrow was recognized for 10 years.
The banquet, at the J. Millard Charman Community Hall in Wallace, was attended by most of the 30 member department along with their spouses or guests. They were joined by members of the active Wallace Fire Department Auxiliary.
Special guests included representatives of the employers of firefighters who were thanked for their part in allowing their staff to leave for emergency calls.
Also represented were the neighbouring fire departments from Pugwash, Tatamagouche, and Wentworth which are often called in to help through their mutual aid program.
