Water Break Floods Amherst Hospital
Water from a broken filter flooded two floors of the Cumberland Regional Health Centre yesterday.
The water was contained near the second floor operating rooms, but also seeped down on the ambulatory care area and the blood and lab collection rooms.
The damage forced sudden cancellation of numerous surgical procedures. Over 40 patients, scheduled between Sunday and Tuesday, were advised their procedures were postponed.
Services will be re-opened as quickly as clean-up will permit. Patients will be re-scheduled based their priority need.
The surgical area has already been cleaned and work is underway on the affected areas on the ground floor. It was all hands on deck during Sunday’s effort, as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and housekeepers worked together to stem the flood.
A spokesman hopes things will be back to normal on Thursday.
