Wentworth to Host Public Meeting of Concern
A public meeting has been called in Wentworth to discuss how possible industrial development might impact the area’s eco-tourism potential.
Scheduled speakers include Joan Baxter, author of “The Mill - Fifty Years of Pulp and Protest”, on clearcutting; Gregor Wilson of Ski Wentworth on visions for sustainable four-season tourism; John Perkins of Sustainable Northern Nova Scotia on mining concerns; Karen Henderson of Folly Lake Wentworth Valley Environmental Preservation Society on wind power developments; and Raymond Plourde, Wilderness Coordinator Ecology Action Centre, on how the forestry could be managed and why.
The meeting is sponsored by the Wentworth Firemen’s Recreation Association to provide information to the public and look at what can be done.
Clearcutting, plans to install wind turbines, and mining operations are catalysts of community concern.
The meeting will take place on Saturday, February 10th, from 3:00 to 5:30 pm at the Wentworth Recreation Centre, 13752 Highway 4.
