Wildcats One Win Away from Tourney Final
The Oxford Wildcats prevailed in a tough battle at the U14 Provincial Girls Baseball Championship giving Tri-County their first loss of the tournament.
Up 3-1 going into the last inning, the Cats rallied for six runs, and a 9-4 victory.
Julia Sharpe stroked a double to start the rally. Addie Fisher drove in a pair when she slapped one down the line past first. Emily McLellan added two more to put the game out of reach.
Allie MacDonald threw 55 pitches, going three complete innings. Under the pitch-count rule, MacDonald will not be eligible to throw again tomorrow but coach Joe Reade has a deep bullpen and the confidence to go with it for tomorrow morning’s final round robin game against Hammonds Plains.
The morning matchup is big. A win against Hammonds Plains will force a return match with Tri County for the championship. However, a Hammonds Plains victory creates a three-way tie, all with 3 and 1 records.
The Wildcats won two games against the Plains early in the season, but Reade says they have added some pitching since then.
Game time is 9:00 o’clock and we should have a report by noon.
