Youth Arrested in Gas Station Robbery
RCMP have arrested a 17-year-old man in connection with a robbery in Springhill last Saturday.
Springhill RCMP responded to an armed robbery at a service station on Highway 2, just outside the former town limits.
A man entered the service station in mid-afternoon, demanding the female clerk open the till. When she refused, the man attempted to open the till himself. He was holding a knife with an approximately six-inch serrated blade.
There was a brief altercation before the man fled the service station with an unknown sum of money. He left the scene in the passenger seat of a newer model, black Toyota Corolla, which had been waiting nearby.
Police arrested the youth yesterday at a store in Amherst. Police also searched an apartment in Amherst where they recovered items believed to be related to the robbery.
The youth appeared in court in Amherst today to answer the following charges:
- Robbery
- Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of an Offence
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending.
