Zann Wins Liberal Nod for Federal Campaign
Lenore Zann will carry the Liberal banner into the upcoming federal election in Cumberland/Colchester. It marks the second time in as many elections that the local Liberals have borrowed a politician from another party.
Zann has served the last number of years as the NDP MLA for the Truro/Bible Hill area.
Her first win in the famous Robert Stanfield seat was quite a surprise. However, she defied the odds again in twice winning re-election.
Zann has proven to be tireless and dedicated to the cause. She is not afraid to enter controversy. In fact, she is sometimes at the centre of controversy as exemplified by her change of parties to contest the October election.
Zann beat three others, all males with obvious ties to the Liberal Party.
Mental health and addictions, women’s issues, and arts and culture are pertinent personal matters, but the new Liberal holds strong concerns for the environment and indigenous matters.
Although it was never clearly stated, it seemed that Zann had the personal support of the out-going MP Bill Casey. They share the goal of keeping the seat from returning to a traditional conservative riding.
While the election campaign is not formally underway, make no mistake, the race is on. Conservative candidate Scott Armstrong has been making the rounds including a stop yesterday in Pugwash to capitalize on the crowds for the HarbourFest Homecoming. Bill Archer is in Kuwait but that has not stopped him from campaigning via Facebook for the People’s Party of Canada.
